Common Questions

What makes Danbury Senior Living unique?

Our approach begins with innovative building design and forward thinking.  In our initial phase, we obtain an Ohio Residential Care Facility license for all apartments or suites.  By doing this, Danbury residents enjoy the satisfaction of knowing that they may move into an apartment at an “independent level” and have the opportunity to receive care services, when desired, without moving to another location.  Residents appreciation the freedom to obtain assistance within their Danbury suite by Resident Companions they have developed professional relationships with and grown to trust.

What is the difference between an independent senior apartment, an assisted living apartment, and a nursing home?

Independent senior apartments typically offer an apartment within a community with select amenities that may include meals, housekeeping, maintenance, and life enrichment activities; home health services may be available.

In assisted living, residents enjoy their own apartment and additional community areas for life enrichment and entertaining, meals, housekeeping, maintenance, and laundry services as well as receive assistance from specially-trained staff with activities of daily living (ADLs): medication administration, mobility, showering and bathing, dressing, personal hygiene, and psycho-social programs.  Specialized memory care or memory support programs may be included and often in a secured neighborhood of apartments with staff who are educated to work with and provide understanding care and services.

In a nursing home, residents require a higher acuity of care and services (including skilled services as defined by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid) delivered by a skilled provider at an intense rate of care like tube feeding, wound management care, IV therapy, and 5-day/week physical, occupational, and/or speech therapy.  Danbury is not a nursing home.

How do I pay for Danbury Senior Living?

Our apartments and amenities are offered at market-rate and include options for dining services as well as life enrichment activities.  Additional care services are charged at a “level of care” that is individualized to the resident and changes as the resident changes.  Memory Support residents pay an all-inclusive rate that depends upon the size and style of their apartment.

Private LTC insurance may pay for a portion of your stay (check your individual policy) and Medicare or your Medicare HMO may pay for skilled services received through a skilled services provider while you reside at Danbury.  Medicaid does not pay for care or services.

Is there an up-front entrance fee or additional monthly community fee at Danbury Senior Living?
Danbury requires an application fee and refundable security deposit.  There are no large up-front entrance fees or on-going community fees.

What are some of the Memory Support programs that Danbury Senior Living provides?

“If you have met one person with dementia, you have met one person with dementia.”  Each and every person is different and their experience with their individual condition causing dementia is personalized.  At Danbury Senior Living, we employ a number of proven techniques to enable each individual to live their life to the fullest.  Among these techniques: Montessori programming builds upon the strengths of procedural function within the brain; reminiscence helps individuals recall and share life stories that engage conversation, exercise the brain, improve social interaction, and lower depression; and Namaste touches and honors the spirit within the person with dementia to encourage, comfort and soothe.

Having dedicated, educated and compassionate Resident Companions who work with residents on a scheduled basis is key to developing the trust necessary to provide care and services.  While all staff is specially trained, Danbury strives to select special staff for these enlightened positions.

How do I know if my loved one is in need of memory care?

When a resident with a dementia or Alzheimer’s disease diagnosis needs additional supportive care in order to make their days successful a specialized memory care neighborhood may be the best environment for them.  Memory care neighborhoods at Danbury Senior Living provide secure doors, additional specially trained staff, and uniquely designed life enrichment programming provide residents with a safe and fulfilling day.
